How to set up a new Puffin OS device
When using Puffin OS on a device for the first time, a wizard would be displayed to guide you through the initial setup process.
- Tap NEXT when seeing the Puffin OS initialization screen.
- Select the language you would like to use in Puffin OS. You can change this setting again later.
- Tap NEXT.
- Confirm your time zone and local time. You can change this setting again later.
- Tap NEXT.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. You can also skip this step and connect to Wi-Fi later.
- Tap NEXT.
- Confirm the Location settings. We recommend using the default settings.
- Tap NEXT.
- Set up a PIN, pattern, or password to unlock your screen when the screen is automatically locked from inactivity. You can also skip this step and set the screen lock type later.
- Tap NEXT.
- Tap START to start using your Puffin OS device.
How do I connect to the Puffin Avatar?
Even after connecting to WiFi, your connection to the Puffin Avatar is not established yet. You will see a "Connection inactive" icon in your notification panel.
Launch Puffin Browser or any web app in the Home screen, and you will be connected to the Puffin Avatar. You will see a cloud icon with a persistent "Puffin Avatar connection" notification.
How do I install web apps?
Web apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Yahoo News are preinstalled on Puffin OS. To install new web apps, tap WebApps in the Home Screen to enter Puffin OS Web App Store and find the apps you want to install.
How do I type in a non-English language on Puffin OS?
Puffin OS provides keyboards of multiple languages. Follow the steps below to enable keyboards of different languages.
Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese
- Open the Settings app.

Tap System > Languages & input.

Under "Keyboards," tap Virtual keyboard.
- Tap Manage keyboards.
- Tap the switch of the input method you would like to activate in Puffin OS:
- 倉頡輸入法: Traditional Chinese
- 谷歌拼音输入法: Simplified Chinese
- 注音輸入法: Traditional Chinese
- Japanese IME: Japanese

What can I do if my language of use is not on the list?
You may choose to install third-party applications by plugging the phone to a computer and use adb commands to install a native Android app.
